Bhubaneswar: The State witnessed an all time record in the new Covid-19 cases by crossing 6,000 mark, around 30 per cent jump in only last 24 hours.

The daily fresh cases which had remained below 5,000 yesterday have jumped to 6164 on Thursday, pushing the cumulative tally to 388479 in the State, official sources said.

While 3575 cases have been detected from quarantine, 2589 infections are local contacts, official data said.

As many as 2009 patients have recovered during the period pushing the cumulative recovery figure to 351386 in the State. With the fresh infections, the active cases in the State currently stand at 35075.

The fatality rate in the State also continues to rise with seven more deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths due to the deadly virus has jumped to 1965, official sources confirmed.

Ganjam and Rayagada district witnessed a maximum two deaths each while one each from Kalhandi, Kandhamal and Khordha has succumbed to the virus during the period.

Khordha district continues to remain on the top with 1132 cases while Malkangiri reported minimum 16 cases in the last 24 hours.

After Khordha, Nuapada district has remained in the second spot with 459 cases while Kalahandi with 452 cases stood third in the row.

Sundergarh secured fourth position with 427 new infections followed by Cuttack(360), Jharsuguda (355), Puri (286), Bargarh (236) and Sambalpur (229).

Similarly, Biolangir district reported 226 fresh cases in the last 24 hours while Nabarangpur witnessed 207 cases. And Keonjhar added 205 new infections.

Districts which saw below 100 cases are Jajpur, Angul, Mayurbhanj,Ganjam  and Rayagada. Similarly, Nayagarh and Sonepur reported 99 new cases each. Similarly, Balasore, Bhadrak,, Jagatsinghpur, Gajapati, Kendrapara,Koraput, Boudh, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal have reported below 100 cases each.
