Bhubaneswar: With 2995 fresh Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours, Odisha continued to witness a daily surge below 3000-mark for the third consecutive day. However, death cases are on the rise. The State has reported 18 more fatalities, the highest single-day spike so far, which has pushed the death toll to 958.

Of the fresh cases, 1737 have been detected from quarantines while 1258 are local contact cases, informed the State I&PR Department.

Khordha has reported the maximum 568 new cases, followed by Cuttack (166 cases), Puri (145), Angul (142), Sambalpur (138), Kendrapara (135), Balasore (121) and Sundergarh (101) districts.

As per the State Health and Family Welfare Department, four Covid-19 deaths were reported from Balasore district while two persons each succumbed in Nayagarh, Puri and Sundergarh. One death each was reported from Boudh, Deogarh, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Khordha, Koraput, Mayurbhanj and Sambalpur districts.

So far, Odisha has witnessed 240998 confirmed cases of coronavirus. While the active caseload stood at 29770, 210217 patients have so far recuperated from the disease.

As per official reports, 45358 samples were tested on Tuesday for COVID-19 that include 7885 RT-PCR, 37340 samples via Antigen testing, and 133 samples via Truenat testing, taking the number of samples tested cumulatively across the state to 35,69,600.

It is worth mentioning that the State had reported 2673 new cases on October 6 while 2617 tested positive for coronavirus on October 5.
