Bhubaneswar: In order to curb the steady surge in the number of Covid-19 cases in the Capital City, Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra on Friday directed the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to enhance daily testing to 3000.

Mohapatra also announced the launch of a toll free number-1229 for the city denizens for getting information about Covid-19 testing.

“The denizens are requested to contact the toll free number 1299 to get all kinds of information about Covid-19 testing,” said Mohapatra.

He also directed the BMC authorities to provide service within 20 to 30 minutes of getting a call over the toll free number.

In the backdrop of more than 300 daily cases reported in Bhubaneswar since the past one week, Mohapatra asked the civic body to ramp up testing, tracking and isolation in the city.

“The target for daily testing will be enhanced to 3000 in BMC area. As many as 33 rapid response teams will be placed for monitoring of the home isolation cases. All the patients should be touched at least once in every day,” said Mohapatra.

He further directed the civic body to announce the restrictions and night curfew through loudspeakers in the entire town.

The daily Covid-19 cases in the Smart City of Bhubaneswar breached the 300-mark since last one week with 311 people testing positive for the virus on Friday.
