Bhubaneswar: The active Covid-19 case tally in Odisha on Tuesday inched towards the 2,000 mark after 218 new cases were reported from different parts of the State in the past 24 hours.

As per the data shared by the I &PR department, a maximum of 34 new cases have been reported from Bargarh, followed by Nuapada (29), Khordha (25), Cuttack (16) and Angul (12).
Of the 218 new cases, 89 are local contact cases and 129 positive cases are from quarantine, as per I&PR tweet.

The State dashboard data reveals that of the total 1,837 active Covid-19 cases at present, Khordha district has the maximum of 314 active cases.

Apart from Khordha, three other districts have 160 plus Covid-19 active cases. They include Cuttack (189), Nuapada (180) and Sundergarh (162) active cases.

The active case load in other districts which are below 100 include Bolangir (90), Mayurbhanj (78), Sambalpur (62), Balasorre (57), Angul (55), Puri (47) and Jajpur (47).

It is pertinent to mention here that Odisha is witnessing a steep rise in new Covid-19 cases for the past one week. Some districts like Nuapada are witnessing a surge due to rise in the number of infections in neighbouring States like Chhattisgarh, as per the government claims.

Keeping in view the rise in the Covid-19 cases in Chhattisgarh, steps are being taken to stop bus services to the neighbouring State from Nuapada, said Niranjan Mishra, Director of Public Health today.
