Bhubaneswar: Fears of a second wave of Covid-19 gripped Odisha with a steady rise in the number of positive cases in the last couple of days in several districts across the State. The State reported 146 new positive cases in last 24 hours with Khordha registering the maximum 35 cases followed by Cuttack (25) and Mayurbhanj(13).

As many as 87 cases have been detected from quarantine while 59 are local contracts. As many as 58 patients have recovered from the disease in last 24 hours, government sources said.

With the inclusion of the fresh cases, the total caseload in the State has reached 338963 while recovery cases stood at 336124.

Khordha district has become a cause for concern as 23 fresh cases have been detected from the Xavier Institute of Management, a Bhubaneswar-based leading management school. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sealed the campus and restricted entry of public into the campus of the premier institute.

In the neighbouring Cuttack, a provate residential college was sealed last week after 25 people, including students and staff members, tested positive for the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, following the detection of a large number of positive cases in XIMB, the BMC issued revised guidelines for Dola Purnima and Holi celebrations in the Capital City with fears of a second wave of outbreak hovering the Twin city and the State as a whole.
