Jhursuguda: The district administration of Jharsuguda on Friday announced ban on weekly haats throughout the district for a period of three weeks.

Apart from restrictions on weekly haats, the administration has also decided to disperse daily markets selling vegetables and non-vegetarian food items to multiple locations.

The administration has appealed for cooperation of all citizens in fight against resurgence of Covid-19.

“There will be no weekly hat in our district for coming three weeks. Daily markets at different locations dealing in vegetables and non-vegetarian food items will be dispersed over multiple locations. Requested to co-operate in furthering our fight against resurgence of COVID,” the Jharsuguda DM tweeted.

The move is believed to be a precautionary measure as 21 persons from a State Government-run engineering college in the district had tested positive for Covid-19 recently. Of them, eight were students while 13 were staff members.

Today, the district registered 13 fresh cases of coronavirus, taking the total confirmed cases to 8,026. While 7,939 patients have recovered from the disease in the district, 26 succumbed to the virus. At present, the district has 61 active cases.

As far as the Covid-19 cases in the State are concerned, 461 new positive cases have been detected in the last 24 hours.
