Puri: The district administration of Puri on Tuesday barred cremation of the dead bodies from outside the district at Swargadwar. Such restrictions have been clamped owing to exigencies arising out of the COVID-19 situation, informed Puri Collector, Balwant Singh adding that such restrictions will come into effect from tomorrow.

“Due to its spiritual significance, people from different parts of the State, and also outside come to Puri Swargadwar to cremate their loved ones. Under the present circumstances arising out of COVID-19, there is a possibility of cross infection. Hence, we have decided not to allow cremation for bodies coming from outside the district from tomorrow,” said Singh.

Singh further stated that “We understand that it is a harsh decision. But it is for the protection of all the persons including those coming from outside as well as Puri residents. We urge people to support the administration.”
