Puri: The Jagannath temple in Puri will again remain out of bounds for devotees once every week. As per the latest decision, the 12th-century shrine will remain closed every Sunday for carrying out necessary sanitization activities, informed Krishan Kumar, Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (STJA) today.

“Today, the Dola Purnima rituals and Suna Besha rituals of deities were held smoothly. Devotees in large numbers had turned on the occasion of Dola Purnima. We appeal all devotees to follow the Covid-19 norms,” said Kumar.

As per the recommendations and other proposals during the last Chhatisa Nijog meeting, the temple will remain closed on Sundays for carrying out sanitization activities, he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that Odisha is witnessing a steep rise in the Covid-19 cases for the past couple of weeks. The State reported 290 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

A maximum of 71 cases were reported from Khordha district, followed by Nuapada (40), Jharsuguda (21) and Cuttack district (16).
