Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Wednesday recorded 730 fresh Covid-19 cases and 16 deaths. With this the positive tally in the State rose to 3,16,001, while fatalities due to the virus surged to 1,687, informed the State Health Department.

As per Information & Public Relations (I&PR) Department, of the fresh cases reported from 30 districts, 419 are from quarantine and the rest 311 were local transmission cases. Mayurbhanj reported the highest (68) fresh cases in the past 24 hours followed by Khordha (65), Sundargarh (57), Cuttack (49), Nuapada (46) and Keonjhar (40).

In terms of death, four persons each succumbed to the disease in Sundargarh. While three deaths were reported from Puri, two each deaths from Bhubaneswar in Khordha and one each from Angul, Bargarh, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jajpur and districts informed the State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department.

The department has shared the details of the 16 COVID patients who succumbed while undergoing treatment at various hospitals:

  1. A 38-year-old female of Angul district.
  2. A 40-year-old male of Bargarh district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
  3. A 56-year-old male of Bhadrak district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Hypothyroidism & Bronchial Asthma.
  4. A 88-year-old male of Bhubaneswar who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension & old age.
  5. A 58-year-old female of Cuttack district.
  6. A 71-year-old male of Dhenkanal district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
  7. A 60-year-old female of Ganjam district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
  8. A 68-year-old female of Jajpur district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension & Dyslipidemia.
  9. A 55-year-old male of Khordha district.
  10. A 82-year-old male of Puri district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
  11. A 69-year-old male of Puri district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
  12. A 45-year-old male of Puri district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
  13. A 65-year-old male of Sundargarh district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
  14. A 52-year-old female of Sundargarh district who was also suffering from Sjogrens' Syndrome.
  15. A 72-year-old female of Sundargarh district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, CKD & Cholelithiasis.
  16. A 59-year-old male of Sundargarh district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension & CAD.

As of now, at least 53 patients infected with COVID-19 have died due to pre-existing ailments, informed the H&FW Department.

A total of 43,453 samples were tested in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tests to 56,85,860 in Odisha.

After today's surge, the number of active cases in the state now stands at 6,887 while 3,07,374 patients have recovered from the infection so far.

Meanwhile, with 44,376 new coronavirus cases and 481 new fatalities in the last 24 hours, the Covid-19 tally in India rose to 92,22,216 and 1,34,699 deaths, as per morning data of the Union Health Ministry.

The total active cases stood at 4,44,746 while 86,42,771 have so far recuperated from the disease, added the Ministry.
