Bhubaneswar: The single-day count of Covid-19 cases in Odisha continued to multiply on Saturday with the State recording 3144 infections and four fatalities in the last 24 hours.

With this, the Coronavirus positive tally in the State surged to 3,64,594 while the death toll roseto 1,942, said a data released by the State Information and Public Relations Department on Saturday.

With today’s inclusion, the active cases in the State stood at 19,077 while 3,43,522 patients have been cured or recovered.

Out of the total cases detected in 30 districts of the State, a total of 1823 cases were reported from quarantine centres while the rest 1321 were local transmission cases.

The four deaths were reported from Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi and Sambalpur districts, as per the data of the State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department.

On Friday, Sundargarh reported the highest 523 cases while Khordha stood second in the list with 497 cases. Apart from that, seven other districts reported a surge over 100 cases in the last 24 hours- Nuapada (395), Bargarh (156), Sambalpur (149), Cuttack (140), Puri (129), Keonjhar (128) and Jharsuguda (119), informed H&FW Department.

Similarly, districts that reported cases above 50 are Nabarangpur (96), Balangir (92), Jajpur (76), Mayurbhanj (68), Gajapati (67), Kalahandi (53) and Bhadrak (51), added the Health Department.

The State has so far tested a total of 95,65,427 samples including 37,245 on Friday. Odisha’s positivity rate stands at 3.81 per cent.

It may be noted that Odisha had last registered over 3000 cases around six months ago on October 8, 2020, when 3144 people had tested positive for the virus with 1825 from quarantine and 1319 local contacts.
