Bhubaneswar: In an effort to ensure that people get groceries and vegetables during the ongoing lockdown period, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has rolled out mobile van service for the delivery of essentials at doorstep.
People can order groceries and vegetables over the phone by dialing the phone numbers of the BMC mobile vans. The civic body has made 120 such vans operational to supply groceries & vegetables and is proposing to increase the number to 200 today, informed Twin City Police Commissioner Sudhansu Sarangi.
In a series of tweets, Sarangi informed about the initiative and shared the list of BMC Mobile Vans with their phone numbers. “Find out the telephone number of the van of your area & order if you can’t walk,” he tweeted.

He further informed that there is no restriction on Home Delivery Services and urged people to contact BMC helpline number 1929 for further details or in case of any difficulty.

The Police Commissioner also advised people to go to their nearest market for the essentials during the ongoing lockdown and refrain from using vehicles for marketing.
“There is no restriction on the use of vehicle passes for bonafide official purpose. Just that vehicle passes cannot be misused to buy vegetables, groceries or for other private purposes like visiting relatives. The main use of the vehicle pass must be to travel from home to workplace,” Sarangi tweeted.

“Use of bike or car for buying vegetables, groceries, medicine, etc. will not be tolerated. Any vehicle reaching any market with or without vehicle pass will be seized,” Sarangi said.

According to sources, the Commissionerate police today seized 286 vehicles for violating the COVID19 regulations under different Police Stations in Bhubaneswar. Similarly, 1019 vehicles were seized in Cuttack urban police district (UPD) for violation of the guidelines.
