Bhubaneswar: With the daily coronavirus cases starting to show a declining trend since last few days, the focus seems to have now shifted to the decline in the number of tests. Odisha reported 2423 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, pushing the virus tally to 254662 on Monday. Of the new cases, 1417 patients are from quarantine, while 1006 are local contact cases.

Official reports reveal 41096 samples were tested on Sunday for COVID-19 that include 5970 RT-PCR, 35082 samples via Antigen testing, and 44 samples via Truenat testing, taking the number of samples tested cumulatively across the state to 3796767.

As many as five districts reported a daily surge of over 100 cases. Khordha district has recorded daily cases below 400-mark with 359 new positives. Next in the chart are Angul (229), Sundergarh (195), Mayurbhanj (128) and Cuttack districts with 118 positive cases respectively.

As per the State Health & Family Welfare department, 18 more patients succumbed to the infection during the period. With this, Odisha’s COVID-19 death toll has risen to 1040.

  • An 85-year old male of Jajpur district who was also suffering from Diabetes.
  • A 28-year old female of Jajpur district.
  • A 40-year old female of Khordha district who was also suffering from Diabetes, Hypertension.
  • An 80-year old male of Mayurbhanj district.
  • A 55-year old male of Nabarangpur district who was also suffering from Diabetes & Hypertension.
  • A 53-year old female of Puri district who was also suffering from Diabetes.
  • A 65-year old male of Sundergarh district.
  • A 39-year old male of Sundergarh district who was also suffering from Diabetes, Hypertension & Chronic Kidney Disease.

Odisha now has 25954 active coronavirus cases, while 227615 people have been cured of the disease so far.
