Cuttack: In a view of the COVID-19 pandemic, Cuttack district administration on Tuesday decided not to allow the conduct of Durga Puja in any pandal in the millennium city.

Informing the development, Cuttack Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani in an exclusive interview to OTV said under the present COVID-19 situation, no public or religious congregation can be allowed in view of public safety and health.

“No permission will be granted to puja pandals to conduct Durga puja this year due to COVID-19 situation,” Said Chayani.

Chayani further stated that people can observe Durga puja in their respective houses.

Meanwhile, Cuttack Balu Bazaar Puja Committee, which is one of the oldest Puja committees in the Silver City, has filed the petition in Orissa High Court and urged the court to allow the festival in order to preserve the 500-year-old tradition.
