Bhubaneswar: With the new confirmed cases of Covid-19 exhibiting an upsurge in as many as seven states, the Bhubaneswar Civic body has on Monday decided to implement the COVID appropriate behaviour in the city limits very strictly.

Issuing a fresh advisory, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has today directed the authorities here to ensure the implementation of the Covid-19 safety protocols stringently.

Police authorities have been advised to ensure strict observance of Covid-19 safety protocols such as mandatory wearing of masks, maintaining physical distancing in public places, including workplaces and educational institutions.

“We had a discussion with the Commissionerate Police with regard to implementing the Covid appropriate measures very strictly. Besides, the BMC has also formed five special enforcement squads to detect violation and ensure compliance of the safety norms. Already, both had started their enforcement drive in the city,” said BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary.

He further added that an awareness drive has also been launched. Announcements to follow the Covid-19 safety norms were made through loudspeakers at all market places in the city limits. The social media has also been used to raise awareness among the general mass. Last evening, even the enforcement team had imposed fine on people at few places. The surveillance will be intensified in the coming days,” he cautioned.

It is worth mentioning here that a teacher at a government high school in IRC village had tested positive for Covid-19 last week following which the school was closed for two days.

“Classes have resumed in the school after proper sanitisation. The headmaster and other teachers are keeping a close watch on the students. If any symptom detected, they will be tested immediately,” said Chaudhary.

Odisha School and Mass Education department has directed all District Education Officers (DEOs) to ensure strict implementation of safety protocols in the schools in the larger interest of students and teaching staff.
