Bhubaneswar: At a time when there is panic among the people in Odisha about the steep rise in Covid-19 cases, the statements of Chief of Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) CBK Mohanty that the Covid-19 graph is plateauing has provided some respite to many.

While talking to reporters on Monday, Mohanty said that Odisha is witnessing daily Covid-19 cases between 6,000 and 6,500 which signify that it is plateauing.

“In medical science, there is nothing absolute. Hence, we can say that we are in plateauing stage as the State has not witnessed a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases in the past few days. We hope that the Covid graph will start witnessing a declining trend soon,” said Mohanty.

According to Mohanty, usually there is an upsurge trend and subsequently plateau and then declining stage which is a natural course during any epidemic or pandemic situation.

“As the Covid-19 cases are now at a constant level, I think it is in plateau stage. We pray to God that there is no peak from here,” said Mohanty.

Mohanty also admitted that local contact cases are certainly a worry sign. “However, we are appealing everybody to follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviour. Everybody needs to follow all the Covid-19 norms so that they do not spread the virus to others,” he added.
