Bhubaneswar: Even as the Covid-19 positivity rate has considerably come down in Odisha since the first week of November, the mortality rate seems to be rising, maintaining a constant upward trend. With the deaths of 16 Covid patients in the last 24 hours, the virus death toll today breached the 1600-mark to reach 1608.

While four persons succumbed to the disease in Sundargarh, three died in Cuttack while two deaths each were reported in Sambalpur and Ganjam districts. Bargarh, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Puri, and Subarnapur districts saw one death each in the last 24 hours, said the H&FW Department.

As many as 757 persons were tested positive during the period pushing the coronavirus positive tally to 312545 on Friday, as per the data of State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department.

Of the fresh 757 cases, 436 were detected from different quarantine centres, while the remaining 321 are local transmission cases. Angul district recorded the highest 75 Covid cases, followed by Khordha (70) and Cuttack (67). Boudh district reported no new cases.


The H&FW department has shared the details of the sixteen Covid-19 patients who succumbed while undergoing treatment at various hospitals:

  1. A 65-year-old male of Bargarh district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
  2. A 65-year-old female of Cuttack district.
  3. A 60-year-old male of Cuttack district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
  4. A 74-year-old female of Cuttack district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
  5. A 58-year-old male of Ganjam district.
  6. A 39-year-old male of Ganjam district.
  7. A 60-year-old male of Jagatsinghpur district who was also suffering from Hypertension.
  8. A 65-year-old male of Jharsuguda district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension & CKD.
  9. A 61-year-old male of Puri district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
  10. A 59-year-old male of Sambalpur district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
  11. A 48-year-old male of sambalpur district who was also suffering from Hypertension.
  12. A 38-year-old male of Subarnapur district who was also suffering from CKD.
  13. A 66-year-old female of Sundargarh district who was also suffering from CKD.
  14. A 69-year-old male of Sundargarh district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
  15. A 45-year-old female of Sundargarh district who was also suffering from COPD.
  16. A 46-year-old male of Sundargarh district who was also suffering from Hypertension.

As of now, at least 53 patients infected with COVID-19 have died due to pre-existing ailments, informed the H&FW Department.

A total of 46419 samples were tested in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tests to 5471180 in Odisha. The number of active cases in the state has come down to 8088 with 302796 persons having recovered from the virus so far.

Meanwhile, With 45882 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Covid-19 tally in India jumped to 90,04,366 while 584 patients succumbed to the disease during the period which pushed the death toll to 132162, as per morning data of the Union Health Ministry.

Total active cases in India stand at 443794 while 8428410 recuperated from the disease so far, added the Ministry.
