Bhubaneswar: Coronavirus cases continued to surge in various districts of Odisha. As many as 282 Covid-19 cases were reported across the State today. Covid tally also jumped above 1000-mark in Ganjam district.

With this, the total number of coronavirus cases in the State has risen to 5752 which includes 1740 active cases. While 3988 patients have recuperated from the disease, 17 persons have lost their lives due to the disease so far, data released by the State I&PR Department said.

Out of the total 282 fresh cases reported from across 17 districts of Odisha, 256 were detected from quarantine centres while the rest 25 are local cases.

Gajapati continues to report severe surge in Covid cases with new 76 cases, the highest in the State today followed by Ganjam 75 with cases, said the I&PR Dept. However, information by the Ganjam administration revealed that as many as 76 new cases have been detected from the district taking the total case tally to 1031.

Of the others, Khurda reported 26 cases, Jharsuguda (23), Kandhamal (17), Sambalpur (13) and Jagatsinghpur (11). Similarly, Puri reported nine cases, Jajpur and Mayurbhanj six each cases, Cuttack (4), Balasore (3) and one each case was detected in Angul, Sundergarh, Bolangir, Koraput and Nayagarh districts.

Besides, as many as eight NDRF personnel who returned from West Bengal after carrying out rescue and restoration work post Cyclone Amphan were also tested positive with the virus.

A total of 4,271‬‬ RT-PCR tests were conducted in the last 24 hours in Odisha taking the cumulative tests to 235627.

In Ganjam district, 14 cases were detected among Corona warriors. While six of them belong to Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) area, four hail from Kukudakhandi and one each from Khallikote, Polosara, Surada and Bellaguntha.

Similarly, three Surat returnees and one Mumbai returnee, one Delhi returnee and one Saudi Arab returnee. The remaining 56 cases are contacts of active cases. The district has now 343 active cases with 680 recoveries and eight deaths so far.

In view of the rising cases of coronavirus, the district administration has ordered the closure of all government offices in the district for the next 10 days.

“From today onwards all government offices will be closed for citizens for next 10 days. We have to take this decision as our senior officers getting corona affected. We pray for their quick recovery,” the district administration tweeted.
