Bhubaneswar: Odisha today saw further drop in the number of Covid-19 cases with 1695 persons testing positive in the last 24 hours. The fresh cases pushed the total caseload in the State to 279582 while the death toll due to coronavirus surged to 1229 with 15 more fatalities.

Of the fresh cases, 986 patients are from quarantine while 709 are local contact cases. Four districts recorded over 100 cases with Khordha witnessing the maximum of 183 Covid-19 cases followed by Balasore (128), Sundergarh (110) and Cuttack (103).

In terms of death, Khordha (Bhubaneswar), Mayurbhanj and Sundergarh recorded two fatalities each while Angul, Balasore, Bargarh, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Bhadrak, Kandhamal, Puri and Sambalpur districts registered one death each, said State Health department.

With this, active cases in Odisha now stands at 18882 while 259418 persons have so far recovered from the disease, data released by the State I& PR Department said.

The State health dashboard revealed that 40033 samples were tested on Saturday for Covid-19 taking the number of samples tested cumulatively across the State to 4280274.
