Bhubaneswar: The warden of boys’ hostel of Gandhi Plus-II College in Bhubaneswar, who allegedly assaulted students for scoring lower marks in examinations, was arrested today. The arrest came after a video purportedly showing the warden mercilessly beating the students went viral on social media.

After the incident, the college authorities had lodged a complaint with police against the warden Biswaranjan Rana. The authorities claimed that they have dismissed the warden for resorting to corporal punishment.

Acting on the complaint, Khandagiri Police had begun an investigation. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anup Kumar Sahoo said, "A complaint was lodged after a video of the assault went viral. The accused warden has been arrested."

Speaking on the matter, Odisha School and Mass Education Minister, Samir Ranjan Dash said, "A complaint regarding the incident was lodged by the college authorities. Police will take further action."
