Corporal punishment: Class X student hospitalised in critical condition

Balasore: A class X girl student of Subarnarekha High School at Baliapal block in the district was admitted to the hospital in critical condition after she was allegedly beaten up by the English teacher today.

According to reports, the girl student was thrashed for loitering outside the classroom.

"Her hand was paining for which she was outside. Later, she started vomiting and fell unconscious after being thrashed by the teacher," said the injured student's friend.

Following the incident, the student was admitted to Baliapal Community Health Centre and then shifted to Balasore hospital after her condition deteriorated.

Block Education Officer, Narayan Chandra Das informed that he was yet to receive any complaints or report in connection with the incident.

"We will take action as per the government provision once the matter is reported to us. The matter will be thoroughly probed," said Das.
