Bhubaneswar: Covid-19 cases continued its upward trend in Odisha with detection of 174 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the last 24 hours, the State I & PR Department informed on Thursday.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the State has risen to 4512 which includes 1451 active cases. While 3047 patients have recuperated from the disease, 11 persons have lost their lives due to the disease so far.

Of the new Covid-19 cases detected today, 146 cases have been reported from quarantine centres while 28 are local contact cases, added I&PR Department.

Of the 174 new cases detected from 18 districts, Ganjan district reported the highest 56 cases followed by Balasore (34), Puri (16) cases, Khurda (10), Jajpur (9,) Nabarangpur and Kendrapara districts reported 7 cases each.

Koraput and Kalahandi detected 6 cases each, Keonjhar 5, Bargarh 4, Kandhamal, Sundargarh and Bhadrak districts reported 3 cases each, Boudh 2, Malkangiri, Nuapada and Bolangir districts reported one case each.

A total of 3,752‬ RT-PCR tests were conducted in the last 24 hours in Odisha taking the cumulative tests to 212224.

Earlier on Wednesday, while 175 persons tested for coronavirus, 73 patients recovered from the diseases.

On the other hand, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik yesterday announced a series of new strategies to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic in the State.

Odisha government will set up ‘Covid Care’ homes in every panchayat where people with mild symptoms of cold, cough and fever that don’t necessitate hospital admission can stay. However, those who later test positive for Covid-19 will be shifted to hospitals.

Similarly, ‘Ward Committees’ will be formed including members at the ward-level – ASHA, Anganwadi, SHG and ANM workers with an aim to decentralise the fight against global pandemic.
