Malkangiri: A serological survey has been initiated in Malkangiri from Tuesday to determine the prevalence of antibodies against Covid-19 among the inhabitants.
The district administration in collaboration with the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) is carrying out the blood-sample study in the district for the first in the Covid-19 pandemic.
Malkangiri district authorities informed that five teams comprising research assistants, technicians, municipality staff and health workers, will undertake the three-day survey in which 1500 people will be tested.
The first phase of the survey will be undertaken in Malkangiri Municipality, while random tests will be done in the rural areas in subsequent phases.
According to sources, mainly samples will be collected from high risk groups for which teams have been deputed to take up the survey.
“We will collect 1000 samples from the community and 500 samples from frontline workers. Around fifty samples each will be collected from 20 wards and the reports will come within one week,” stated epidemiologist Dura Prasad.
The district administration has urged the locals to cooperate with the teams during the survey.
