Bhubaneswar: The COVID-19 tally in Odisha rose to 283942 on Tuesday after 1247 more people tested positive for the infection while 13 fresh fatalities pushed the death toll in the State to 1272, State Information & Public Relations Department said.

This is the second day that the number of coronavirus cases plunged below 1500 ever since the infections started showing a downward trend in the State.

Of the fresh cases, 729 patients are from quarantine while 518 are local contact cases. Only two districts of the State recorded cases over 100- Khordha (206) and Cuttack (105).

The State Health and Family Welfare Department informed four patients succumbed to the infection in Khordha (Bhubaneswar), three deaths in Nuapada, two in Jharsuguda and Keonjhar and one each in Sundergarh and Malkangiri districts.

Odisha currently has 16512 active cases, while 266105 people have recovered so far.

As many as 30303 samples were tested on Tuesday for COVID-19 taking the number of samples tested cumulatively across the State to 4385259.
