Rayagada: More than 4,000 contractual labourers of JK Paper Mills started an indefinite dharna today demanding regularisation of jobs and increase in salary.

The protestors staged demonstration in front of the company's main gate to press for fulfilment of their 14-point charter of demands.

As per reports, the workers decided to observe strike after a tripartite meeting at the Rayagada Sub-collector office on Thursday failed to resolve the issue.

The agitating workers alleged that despite repeated appeals and several rounds of meeting with the company authorities for past four months, their demands are yet to be met. “The company is delay-dallying in keeping its promises and therefore we have decided to observe the stir,” a worker said.

The protestors have been demanding regularisation of services of those who have completed 10 years, hike in salary and allowance and 10-day leave annually for women contractual employees.

Meanwhile the company officials informed that a case in connection with regularisation of jobs of contractual staff is pending before the Rayagada court.
