Contractor Roughs Up Labourer In Ganjam, Video Goes Viral

Ganjam: A pathetic act unfolded at a farmhouse in Khallikote area of the district on Sunday when a labourer was beaten up black and blue  by a contractor and his associates for refusing to shift to another state to work.

A video of the incident which has gone viral in various social media platforms showed the contractor and his aides thrashing and kicking the labourer mercilessly even though he could be seen pleading before them to spare his life.

Sources said, the youth is a resident from Kumbhar village under Kodala police station and was reportedly working with the contractor who is yet to be identified. According to reports, the youth refused to shift to another state to work as a migrant labourer which infuriated the contractor. The latter allegedly lured him to a farm house at the nearby Kanchana village and assaulted him.

Kodala police have started an investigation into the case based on the video footage.

“We have questioned the youth about the entire incident and registered a case in this regard. Further investigation is underway,” said a police official.
