Nayagarh: Police on Monday arrested 11 people including a police constable for attacking station master in charge of Nayagarh railway station and pillaging the office premises. The police constable identified as Chittaranjan Jena and his 10 other friends have been forwarded to court after arrest.

As per sources, Chittaranjan and his friends, were consuming liquor and gossiping in the railway station premises late on Sunday night. They reportedly attacked the Station Master Sanjay Pradhan when the latter tried to discourage them from boozing and requested to vacate the place.

The railway official’s comments fumed the group and they reportedly seized him before thrashing him black and blue. The miscreants frightened other railway staff at the spot and also plundered the place before setting fire on some equipment.

The station master who has been critically injured is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

“Some RPF on duty intervened when the miscreants abused me and they warned the mischief mongers to cease their criminal activities at once but they stayed put. Consequently, a scuffle ensued and some miscreants took out an iron rod and hammered a blow on my head,” the station master informed reporters.

Nayagarh Police Station IIC Jaydeep Mohanty said, “Apart from attacking government official and damaging public property, boozing and congregating for no reason beyond the permissible time at a railway station is an unlawful and criminal offence. Strict action will be taken against all those involved.”
