Jagatsinghpur: A Congress worker, who had joined the party yesterday, was allegedly stabbed to death at Noliasahi in Gadakujanga area under Jagatsinghpur Parliamentary constituency today.

The deceased has been identified as Lachman Behera.

According to sources, Behera, who had quit the ruling-Biju Janta Dal (BJD) and joined Congress party a day before, was returning after casting his vote when an unidentified miscreant stabbed him to death.

Though the exact cause of Behera's murder is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that he was allegedly killed by BJD workers over political rivalry, sources added.

As far as poll violence and illegal activities were reported are concerned, police have taken action, he said.
