Bhubaneswar: The Opposition today came down hard on the State government with Odisha Congress chief Niranjan Patnaik accusing the ruling-BJD of wasting public money in the name of 'Make in Odisha' Conclave.
Niranjan said Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik continues to spend public money in the garb of 'Make in Odisha' and the facts clearly show that it is actually 'Fake in Odisha.' The success rate of MoUs signed by the Odisha government is only 50% and the government in March 2018 admitted that out of 92 MoUs signed, only 46 have become fully or partially operational, said Patnaik.
The OPCC chief, in a series of tweets, also highlighted the fact that in 'Ease of Doing Business' rankings Odisha slipped from seventh position in 2015 to 11th in 2016 and further plunged to 14th in 2017.
"For Odisha, the private sector’s approval rating is a mere 39.20% compared to well-governed states like Karnataka, which has an approval rating of 77%. Let's look at what happened to the previous editions of Make in Odisha. Out of the 124 companies that submitted proposals, only 3 have commenced operation. What purpose all the wastage of public money serve?" Patnaik tweeted.
Former Union Minister Srikant Jena said, after 18 years of rule the idea of industrialization suddenly dawned on the Naveen Patnaik-led government.
"He (CM Naveen) cannot show one single unit. Should we allow loot of our natural resources?" Jena questioned.
Similarly, Odisha BJP president Basant Panda said that the BJD government is eyeing to collect funds through the 'Make in Odisha Conclave' for 2019 general polls.
"The conclave is an image makeover attempt of the government. However, the people of Odisha will not get any benefits," said Panda.
Meanwhile, Odisha Industries Minister Ananta Das said, "The Make in Odisha conclave proved that Odisha is the best destination for investments and we aim to make the world aware about it."
