Bolangir: Congress MLA Santosh Singh Saluja on Wednesday lashed out at the Odisha government over alleged multiple problems at Kantabanji Community Health Centre (CHC) in Bolangir district.

The local MLA said though he had sanctioned Rs 17 lakh from the Local Area Development (MLALAD) Fund for the development of the hospital, nothing has been done so far.

“Last year, I had sanctioned Rs 17 lakh to the healthcare centre for procuring ventilators. One year has passed, but the dist administration is yet to procure them,” he said.

The legislator has brought serious allegations against doctors working at the health facility. He said, “Doctors from Kantabanji CHC are practicing in private hospitals and clinics by ignoring their primary duty.”

Saluja also accused Bolangir Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of negligence in discharging his duty. He alleged that the CDMO did not arrange an ambulance for former Patnagarh MLA Bibekananda Meher who passed away recently. “Meher breathed his last midway while being taken to a hospital,” he alleged.

Reportedly, the former legislator breathed his last while being taken to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Apart from appealing the government to look into the issues of the health centre, Saluja urged the government to set up Covid care centre at the CHC.
