Bhubaneswar: The Congress slammed the ruling BJD-led Odisha Government for its alleged failure in providing adequate healthcare services to the people of the State. At a presser on Saturday, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) alleged that out of the 6,536 sanctioned posts of doctors, 3,119 posts are lying vacant.

There is provision of mere 18, 000 beds at different government hospitals for 4.5 crore people in the State. There are only 512 ambulances for the 30 districts of the State, alleged PCC spokesperson, Gyanadev Beura.

"Different posts of doctors, nurses and other para medical staff in several Primary Health Centres (PHC) and Community Health Centres (CHC) across the State are lying vacant. The CHCs and District Headquarters Hospitals (DHHs) do not have experienced doctors."

The Congress said the Odisha government has failed miserably in improving the healthcare facilities. The Congress would double the total budget allocated for healthcare if the party is boted to power in the coming elections.

Meanwhile, BJD leaders could not be contacted over the allegations levelled by the Congress.
