Bhubaneswar: Odisha Congress today extended support to the all-India strike called by Central trade unions to be observed on January 8. Earlier, various Left parties and Central trade unions had extended their support to the strike against the anti-labour policies of the Narendra Modi-government.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Left parties are busy in mobilising support for the nation-wide call for bandh on January 8 against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register for Citizens (NRC) and the recent violence inside JNU campus.

The Central trade unions have called for the Bharat Bandh on 14-point charter of demands including social security, minimum wages, and employment among others.

“The Bharat Bandh has been called to protest the anti-people policies, CAA, NRC and other issues plaguing the country. Today, we met Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Niranjan Patnaik and the party has agreed to extend full support to the bandh,” said Ramkrushna Panda, CPI leader.

PCC President Niranjan Patnaik on the other hand said, “Several outfits have called for the bandh keeping in view the situation in the country. Congress has extended support to the bandh.”

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “The ground from under the feet of Congress and Left parties has slipped and they are now speaking the voice of Pakistan.”
