Cuttack: One year on, the Cuttack Nagar Mahila Congress will mark the Namtara police firing by organizing a mass demonstration seeking total prohibition across the State.

All India Mahila Congress chief Sobha Ojha, general secretary Varsha Gaekwad, CWC member Sushila Tiria, Odisha Congress chief Prasad Harichandan, and convenor Subhankar Sarkar among others will be present to demand a ban on sale of liquor and other drugs across the State.

The Congress will also use the occasion to highlight the delay in the submission the probe report by the RDC even a year after the Namtara police firing incident.

Mahila congress will also protest price rise in essential commodities and the irregularities in distribution of ration cards under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).

“Congress has organised a protest to mark the fateful day of March 8, 2015, when women and children were fired at by Police during an anti-liquor protest at Namtara in Kendrapara. The probe committee is yet to submit its findings and compensation has also not been paid to kin of the deceased. Because of the kind of adverse effects that alcohol is having on women and youth, we are demanding a total ban,” said Sobha Ojha.
