Bhubaneswar: In a bid to strengthen and revive its organisation, Congress has started the selection process of ‘Preraks’, who will ‘inspire and inform’ workers about party ideology.

For the selection and training of the Preraks in Odisha, which began today at the party headquarters in Bhubaneswar, the AICC in-charge of 'Training and Sandesh' Sachin Rao arrived in the State today on a two-day tour.

Thousands of youths reportedly congregated at the Congress Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday for the Prerak selection. Around 45-50 Preraks will be selected from Odisha to reach out to the masses at the ground level, informed Odisha Congress chief, Niranjan Patnaik.

"It (Prerak selection) can be called as a talent search initiative of Congress. The person (Sachin Rao), who is in-charge of the same, is presently in Odisha. The Preraks will propagate the ideology of the party to strengthen the Congress at the grassroots level," said Patnaik.

The Preraks are believed to play a key role in organising party workers and taking the organisation’s ideology to the masses.

Meanwhile, the Preraks will reportedly undergo a training of around seven days to build their knowledge and once trained; they will conduct monthly 'organisational dialogues' over several issues at every district office.

On the other hand, it is believed that a series of defeats has forced Congress to start such a mass contact programme in line with the BJP's ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) which has the concept of 'Pracharaks.'
