Bhubaneswar: In a move that is seen as an attempt to shake-off the dynasty politics-tag, a new 'ticket policy' was announced today by Congress' Odisha in-charge Jitendra Singh, who said that the party will give only one ticket to one family.
Singh said that only those who are established in politics will get a chance to contest elections and no recommendations will be entertained during ticket distribution.
"The AICC had announced a screening committee a year back to identify candidates to contest election on party tickets. Within a next few days, candidates will be selected for tickets which will be distributed only on merit and not recommendations," Singh said.
Commenting on the decision OPCC (Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee) Chief, Niranjan Patnaik has said that they will follow the instructions given by the AICC (All India Congress Committee).
A few days back AICC President Rahul Gandhi approved a 31-member coordination committee of Odisha Congress (OPCC).
While Odisha in-charge Jitendra Singh was appointed Chairman, Jagannath Patnaik was named convenor.
Earlier in June, Patnaik had said that the party will announce the list of MLA candidates by August to provide adequate time to them to strengthen their base in their respective constituencies.
