Bhubaneswar: Revising its forecast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today predicted that the southwest monsoon will touch Odisha by this weekend.

HR Biswas, Director of Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, informed that a low pressure system is expected to form over Bay of Bengal and it is likely to help in further advancement of monsoon.

“Conditions are favourable for monsoon onset in Odisha as a low pressure system is building and it will expedite the advancement of monsoon. We expect the monsoon to touch Odisha by June 20 or 22,” said Biswas.

Biswas further stated that the low pressure is likely to form by June 20 and it will trigger monsoon onset over southern Odisha.

The met department further predicted that thunderstorm induced rainfall will continue in south and interior parts of Odisha in the next 24 hours.
