Commissionerate Police To Hold Weekend Meets With Senior Citizens

Bhubaneswar: In order to ensure safety of senior citizens and help them resolve their problems, the Commissionerate Police has decided to conduct interaction meetings with elderly people once a week at all police stations across the Smart City.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting between senior officials of the city police and senior citizens of Bhubaneswar urban police district organised today. More than 950 senior citizens attended the event and also took part in a health camp held on the sidelines of the interaction meeting. According to the decision taken at the meeting, all police stations in the city will hold meeting with elderly persons every Sunday from 5 pm to 6 pm.

The inspector-in-charge (IIC) of the police stations will chair the meeting in which senior citizens will be free to discuss their various issues.

The Commissionerate Police has further requested the senior citizens to provide details of their tenants and domestic helps through Sahayata mobile app. Sources said, so far around 12,600 senior citizens have registered with the mobile app. Besides, the CP has also requested senior citizens to install CCTV cameras on their premises.

Police commissioner Sudhansu Sarangi said, “We have requested the senior citizens to verify names of their tenants and domestic helps through our mobile app and citizen’s portal. We have also asked them to get familiar with our new SOS system."

Senior citizens, who often become the soft target of criminals like snatchers have welcomed the initiative of the Commissionerate police.

“Serving senior citizens and providing adequate security to them is the responsibility of police. We thank the city police for giving us time and arranging such meetings for our grievance redressal. We will also extend full cooperation to police,” said Madhumadhav Jena, a senior citizen.
