Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Monday arrested two persons who were part of a major racket that used to steal mobile phones from passengers in long distance buses.
The duo has been identified as Sanjay Gadnayak and Lipan Sahu of Angul district.
Senior police officials informed that the duo used to loot mobile phones from the passengers travelling in Rourkela-bound buses.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the duo had sold stolen mobile phones of nearly 80 persons. The detailed probe in this connection is underway.
Moreover, as many as 102 stolen mobile phones have been seized from the possession of both the accused who will be produced before the court, police said.
On November 17, quick action team of the Commissionerate Police had seized 53 smartphones while the gadgets were being transported by a person to Kolkata.
Twin City Police Commissioner, Sudhanshu Sarangi in a tweet had informed that the smartphones were mostly snatched/stolen from various persons in Bhubaneswar. The stolen mobile phones were being taken to Kolkata to be sold in the black market, said Sarangi.
