Bhubaneswar: To ensure safe Diwali, the Commissionerate police has issued safety guidelines with regard to bursting of firecrackers as per the directives of the Supreme Court.

According to the guidelines, residents of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack have been directed to burst firecrackers between 8 PM and 10 PM. Firecrackers with more than 125 decibels, China made garland crackers have been completely banned.

Bursting firecrackers withing 100 metre of hospitals, educational institutions, courts, and religious places has been completely banned, while strict instruction has been given for mass bursting of crackers in open fields away from human settlements.

People have also been advised to buy firecrackers only from licensed sellers.

On the other hand, authorities of Biju Patnaik International Airport(BPIA) have requested people living within 20 km of the airport to refrain from igniting rockets, using Akash Deep and laser lights.

"It's our request to people staying near the airport to refrain from using rocket bombs, laser lights and Akash deep as they obstruct flight operations," Director of BPIA Suresh Kumar Hota said.
