Cuttack: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Friday cancelled its contract for waste collection and disposal work in Cuttack with Hyderabad-based company Ramky following tender fixing allegations levelled against the company.

The decision of the CMC came a day after the city unit of the Congress party staged a demonstration in front of the CMC office demanding the immediate cancellation of the fresh agreement the civic authority had signed with Ramky despite its dubious record.

The members of the city Congress had said at the end of the contract period of Ramky as per the previous tender, the CMC has again contracted the work to the Hyderabad-based company without inviting open tenders.

They had threatened to intensify their stir in the coming days if an open tender is not invited for the work. The Congress members had submitted a memorandum to the Additional Commissioner of the CMC in this regard.

Notably, charges were made that the arrested Dhalasamant brothers were involved in tender fixing for Ramky Group, which was hired by the CMC for waste disposal work. Regarding this, the Commissionerate Police had questioned some staff of Ramky earlier.
