Koraput: Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha (CMAS) leader Nachika Linga returned home at Bhaliaputa under Narayanapatna block in Koraput district on Friday after languishing in jail for six years.

Following the typical tribal ritual on the bank of a river, Bhaliaputa villagers took out a procession to welcome their leader Nachika.

“With blessings from the people of our area and my mother, I have returned home. I will continue to serve the motherland. I hope all the people of our area will support me in the endeavour,” said the tribal leader.

Nachika was released from the jail after the Orissa High Court granted him conditional bail in the much-hyped Narayanpatna police station attack case of 2009.

Booked in about 45 criminal cases, the leader representing peasants, bonded labourers and tribal people of Koraput district had earlier been granted bail in the remaining 44 cases.

Nachika, who headed the Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha, an overground organisation of CPI-Maoists in Narayanpatna and Bandhugaon blocks of Odisha’s Koraput district, had surrendered before the Odisha police in October 2014.
