Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of the 72nd Independence Day, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik presented police medals to 26 Odisha police officials, which included personnel of Fire Services, Prisons, Home Guards and Civil Defence departments, for their bravery, disciple and contribution to service.

The police medals which were announced on the Republic Day were presented by the chief minister during a state-level event in Bhubaneswar today.

While 13 police officers were awarded President’s Police Medal for meritorious, distinguished service and gallantry, 7 personnel from the Fire services department were felicitated with President’s medal for distinguished services.

Two officials from the Prisons department were presented with President’s Sanskar Seva Padak.

Similarly, four Home Guard and Civil Defence officials were honoured with President’s medal.

“I will give the entire credit for this honour to those who I work for and those to whom I am imparting training,” said Susanta Patnaik, volunteer, Civil Defence.

Apart from police medals, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also awarded Jeevan Raksha Padak to Pankaj Mahanta and Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak to Mamata Dalei for their exemplary courage.

Mamata Dalei of Bankuala village in Kendrapara district, who was felicitated for fearlessly fighting off a crocodile to save her sister Asanti’s life last year, said she felt very proud after receiving the award from the Chief Minister.
