Bhubaneswar: India's first-of-its-kind 'Fire Park' was on Tuesday inaugurated in Bhubaneswar by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, through video conferencing. Patnaik has also launched a dynamic online portal 'Agnishama Seva' of Directorate General Fire Services, Home Guards and Civil Defence (http://odishafshgscd.gov.in/), to facilitate access to various citizen services provided by the department.

Aimed at creating awareness on fire safety measures, the fire park which has been set up on the premises of Odisha Fire & Disaster Response Academy (OFDRA) in Baramunda area of the capital city, will open every Saturday for the public from 3:30 PM to 5 PM, informed DG Fire Service, Satyajit Mohanty.

The park has several stalls - each of them demonstrating safety measures to be initiated during a fire mishap before the arrival of firefighters. Demonstration on the use of fire-fighting equipment, rescue and disaster operations, exhibition hall, screening of films and distribution of leaflets on fire safety, will be the part of the activities in the park. Students from schools and colleges will be the focus group, an official said.

The Chief Minister said that it would go a long way in educating and improving awareness on basic fire safety measures among the people, particularly among the students.

"It's no doubt an effort in the right direction to create a safety compliant citizenry. 16 fire-related services are now available to the citizens on the online mode in the dynamic portal www.odishafshgscd.gov.in," Patnaik said.

He also appreciated the role of Odisha Fire Service in fighting the pandemic and commended the fire service personnel for the massive plasma donation for the treatment of critical Covid patients.

Patnaik said that all these efforts continued uninterrupted in spite of the pre-occupation in rescue and restoration work during cyclone Amphan and high floods in August 2020.

Odisha Fire Service has earned glorious distinction for itself at the national level for its outstanding services on rescue and disaster response, and I hope it will continue to adopt technological innovations and bring about transformational changes in the public delivery system, the CM said.

A day ago, CM Naveen inaugurated Ramlingeshwar Park in the silk city of Berhampur. The Ramlingeshwar Reservoir and Park built at a cost of Rs 12 crore spreads over 8.15 acres. The park has a huge statue of Lord Shiva in the centre of the pond. Beautiful gardens, watchtowers and the water fountains add beauty to the park.

Addressing the people through video conferencing, Patnaik highlighted the history of the Ramlingeshwar Reservoir, which dates back to the pre-independence era. "The Ramlingeshwar Reservoir and Park has earned a special place on the tourism map of Ganjam today and state government is continuing its efforts to make Berhampur an ideal city," he said.
