Malkangiri: The security forces had escaped narrowly from a possible landmine explosion at Minapa forest in Chhattisgarh bordering Malkangiri district of Odisha.

On specific intelligence inputs, the CRPF jawans of ‘206’ battalion detected the explosive material during operation in the forest.

The jawans safely recovered the landmine weighing around 10 kg and pressed special bomb disposal squad into service for safe disposal.

The jawans with the help of metal detector had traced the powerful explosive. The landmine was planted targeting to inflict casualties on the security forces, reports said.

The forest areas are considered a hotbed of the Maoists.

Meanwhile, combing operation in the area has further intensified following the recovery of the landmine, reports added.

A similar incident had also been reported from Swabhiman Anchal in Malkangiri four months ago when BSF Jawan detected landmine planted by the rebels in a nearby forest.

The bomb disposal squad had then safely exploded it without causing any harm to lives.

Sources said Maoists have resorted to such act out of desperation in a bid to make their presence felt.
