Boudh/Bhubaneswar: Thanks to the cleverness of a car driver, Purunakatak Police on Sunday arrested 8 robbers  and recovered a car they had allegedly lifted from Bhubaneswar on the pretext of hiring for marriage.

The gang had cleverly hired an Innova car from Bhubaneswar on the pretext of using it for a wedding but due to presence of mind of the driver, they were arrested by police near Kantabanji of Bolangir district.

Cops rescued the driver and seized one gun, two swords and masks used by the robbers from the car.

According to sources, the gang had hired the vehicle from Bhubaneswar in order to execute a robbery. However, the car driver raised suspicion over the behaviour of the occupants and clandestinely contacted the car owner.

The car owner in turn immediately informed the matter to the police.

"We received information that some people were travelling in an Innova car to commit a crime. Following the direction of the superintendent of police, we checked vehicles at Boudh entry point and nabbed the eight persons," said Jyotsna Kaunri, IIC of Purunakatak PS.

"All the accused hail from Nayagarh. Further interrogation is underway and we are trying to elicit more information from them," the IIC added.
