Bhubaneswar: The Odisha School and Mass Education department on Tuesday issued a formal circular informing that all students from standard 1 to 8 will be promoted to the next class without any exam for the academic session 2020-21.  The government in the notification has however announced a major relief for the students from the new session.

As it is believed that a year-long hiatus from regular teaching might have seriously affected the standard of students of all sections, the government has announced to conduct remedial classes for first 2-3 months of the next academic session to bring the students to appropriate competency level.

The decision will be applicable to all Government, Government abed and all un-aided private schools under School and Mass Education Department.

The government has clarified that the move comes in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic which has completely washed away the classes of the students from standard 1 to 8 since March last year.

“I am directed to say that Government has been pleased to approve the proposal that there will be examination/ assessment test during the academic session 2020-21 for Class I to VI if students of the said classes will be promoted to the next higher class, due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the State,” the State Mass Education department stated in its notification dated March 16.

With scorching summer months ahead and scare of new virus cases in several other States putting the authorities in Odisha on toes, Mass Education department minister Sameer Dash recently informed that the new academic session may not start from April 2021.
