Cuttack: A Class VIII girl student of a private residential school in Soro area of Balasore is now battling for life at the SCB hospital in Cuttack after being allegedly gang raped by her seniors inside the school premises. The survivor is undergoing treatment at the ICU while her condition is stated to be critical.

As per a complaint lodged by the girl's family members on November 17, four boys studying in the school raped her. They further alleged that one Rajendra Das, posted as a teacher in the same school, threatened the survivor of dire consequences if she revealed the matter before anyone.

Based on the complaint, Balasore Additional SP along with Nilagiri SDPO and Soro IIC initiated a probe and went to the survivor's home in Basudevpur of Bhadrak district to discuss with the family members. Though a case was registered in this connection and all the accused were called to the police station, they were reportedly released after interrogation.

The accused teacher, however, has refuted the allegations. "Four students have been named by the family members. Police left us after a brief interrogation. But I have no idea why the family is dragging me into the case and levelled false allegations against me," said Das.

On the other hand, the girl's family members have blamed the police for allegedly failing to provide them justice even after so many days. The response of police officials could not be obtained.
