Bhubaneswar: Some land owners in the city on Monday approached Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash and alleged that they are being threatened by a group of people to give Rs 1 crore extortion for the possession of the land owned by them.

In their complaint, the locals alleged that despite having all documents pertaining to the ownership of the land, a group of people from Laxmisagar area are demanding extortion from them.

Even though a complaint in this regard was lodged at Laxmisagar police station, no action was taken which forced us to approach the DCP, the complainants alleged.

"It has been one year since I bought the plot and the documents are with me. But some goons are demanding extortion to give us the possession," alleged a complainant.

"The previous owner of the land registered the plot in our name and gave us the handover. But, some miscreants attempted to encroach upon our land. When we opposed their move, they chased us with weapons," alleged another complainant.

Reacting on the allegations, Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash has assured the complainants of action against the extortionists.

"Based on the complaints, we will take necessary action against the extortionists. Whenever we receive such complaints, we register case immediately. If none come forward to lodge complaints, we register case based on our own information," Dash said.
