Paradip: Two persons including a woman were detained by police on Wednesday at Sandhakuda Basti in Paradip area for allegedly attempting to sacrifice a seven-year-old child on Saturday. However, the child was reportedly rescued by his father.

The two were detained following an FIR by the child’s father, Satyaranjan Mandal at Jatadhari Muhana Marine Police Station. The accused are being interrogated at the police station in connection with the matter.

As per the complaint lodged with the police, the child went missing on Saturday evening following which his family member searched his whereabouts. After a couple of hours, the child’s father reportedly spotted his son at a nearby pond where three persons believed to be sorcerers, and a woman were conducting pre-sacrifice rituals.

“They had undressed and garlanded my child and were conducting some rituals. When I asked them for taking my son to the pond, they did not reply clearly. I am sure they had taken my son for sacrifice,” alleged Mandal.

When asked about the incident, the minor boy said, “They offered me Rs 5 and promised to give more Rs 20 if I go with them. I agreed and went with them. There they applied vermillion on my face and body but after some time my father came there and took me with him,"

Refuting the charges of human sacrifice, the accused woman said, “The allegations are false. I am not a sorcerer or black magician. Why shall I do such things?”

“I had performed a ritual with the woman and therefore I am being framed by the villagers. The allegation of human sacrifice is baseless,” said the other accused.

Further investigation in connection with the incident is underway.
