Jeypore: A child marriage bid was foiled due to timely intervention of officials of the District Child Protection and the Childline at Kangra village under Semiliguda block of Koraput district on Saturday.

According to reports, as both the bride and groom were minors and the officials raided the village and stopped the marriage.

The officials also held talks with families of the groom and the bride and persuaded them to call off the marriage until the duo attains 18 years of age.

“The duo was rescued and produced before the Child Welfare Committee. Later, the custody of the minor boy and girl were handed over to their respective parents who signed an agreement,” Rajashree Das, an official.
