Bhubaneswar: Acting tough on the commercial vehicles of other States plying inside Odisha without valid permits and payment of taxes, the State government has directed the Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) to check tax evasion by these vehicles.

In a letter issued to the RTOs, Transport Commissioner has asked to launch a special drive and initiate appropriate action against illegal plying of state/contract carriage and goods carriage of other States for such violations.

Further, the RTOs have been directed to launch special enforcement drive from September 2 to 7 in the State to put a check on such clandestine operation.

“It is noticed that stage contract carriage and goods carriage of other states are plying inside Odisha without having a valid permit and without payment of tax. Such clandestine operation of stage contact carriage and goods carriage needs to be curbed by resorting to stringent enforcement measures,” the letter mentioned.

As per the notification, the RTOs have been asked to issue e-VCR (vehicle check report) against the offending owner of the vehicle under Section 192-A of MV Act, 1988, and submit the prosecution report before the jurisdictional magistrate for adjudication if any such vehicle is found plying without valid permit or counter signature.

If the offending vehicle (stage carriage contract carriage and goods carriage) is found plying without payment of tax, it may be seized under Section 17 (2) of OMVT Act, 1975 by issuing Form-I. The seized vehicle will not be released without recovery of arrear tax and penalty due.

The letter also mentions that the commercial vehicles coming to Odisha can pay the tax and obtain permit through online mode from parivahan.co.in and selecting check post tax under online services.
